A small moment, but a meaningful one for our family business.

We’ve admired Catherine Price’s work for years, especially her efforts to help families create healthier relationships with technology and reclaim childhood through real-world experiences.

After experiencing Captain Mail with her family, she shared:

“Captain Mail is a great — and fun — analog activity for kids and families to do together!”
— Catherine Price, author of How to Break Up With Your Phone and co-author of The Amazing Generation

When we started Captain Mail at our kitchen table, our goal was simple: help families create more moments of wonder, connection, and imagination away from screens.

We’re incredibly grateful for Catherine’s support and encouragement. It means a lot to our family and strengthens our belief that these offline moments still matter.

I had the opportunity to speak with Lenore Skenazy today and share the story behind Captain Mail.

It was a real privilege to explain what we’re trying to build and why we believe so strongly in helping families create more screen-free moments together. Through adventure letters, hands-on activities, and imaginative play, our goal is simple: help kids use their creativity, strengthen family connections, and experience the excitement of getting something special in the mail.

Lenore has been a pioneer in encouraging independence, resilience, and real-world experiences for children, so having the chance to tell her about Captain Mail and hear her thoughts was incredibly meaningful.

Thank you, Lenore, for taking the time to listen and for all the work you continue to do for kids and families. If you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking out her TED Talk and her book Free-Range Kids.

Today I had the privilege of speaking with the incredible , founder of the Free-Range Kids movement and Let Grow.

I came away with so many ideas and a renewed appreciation for the importance of giving children the freedom to explore, create, solve problems, and build confidence on their own. So much of what she talks about aligns with why we created Captain Mail—to help families spend more time engaging together and less time behind screens.

If you haven’t already, I highly recommend checking out Lenore’s TED Talk and reading her book. Her work has inspired countless parents to trust their kids a little more and let them discover just how capable they really are.

Thank you, Lenore, for your generosity, wisdom, and encouragement. I learned a lot from our conversation and look forward to staying in touch.
