Africa’s instant payments journey is entering its next chapter.

As a proud sponsor of Swift Connect Africa, we engaged in conversations around how domestic real-time payment systems can evolve into interoperable continental rails.

Matthieu de Heering joined the panel “From Domestic Real Time Payments to Continental Rails: Operationalising Instant Payments for Cross-Border Across Africa,” sharing perspectives on what it truly takes to make instant cross-border payments work at scale. The discussion covered interoperability, real-time FX, liquidity management, regulatory alignment, and strong risk frameworks.

Last week, Montran Africa welcomed central banks, exchanges, CSDs, and ecosystem partners to Cluj-Napoca for our inaugural Market Infrastructure Summit — opened by Raegan Esca and Wohoro Ndohho, with Matthieu de Heering guiding the room as MC.

From ISO 20022 and instant payments to post-trade efficiency, capital market integration, and AI in MIs, the candor and curiosity our delegates brought to every session set the tone for what this community can build together.

Thank you to everyone who made the journey. Video and deep-dive session recaps are landing in June.

Real-time participation is arriving faster than most commercial-bank core programs can absorb. That shifts the first modernization question. It is often less about replacing the core immediately and more about finding the connection layer that gets the bank live, compliant, and operationally stable.

In the Gulf, that logic is already visible. Banks that solve rail access early gain time, control, and a clearer path into the next layer of modernization.

The most powerful infrastructure sale isn’t the biggest — it’s the first.

When a central bank deploys new payment infrastructure, it sets the standard every commercial bank must integrate with. That single decision creates a gravitational pull: participant banks adopt compatible solutions, regional corridors demand interoperability, and the vendor powering the anchor gains a structural advantage across the entire ecosystem.

With PAPSS connecting 19 countries and central banks modernizing from Africa to ASEAN, the anchor strategy is how one deployment unlocks an entire market.

The EU Instant Payments Regulation has been live since 9 October 2025. It removed the €100,000 transaction ceiling on SEPA Instant Credit Transfers — and pushed the the implementation of limit controls onto each PSP.

Montran’s Limit Management module delivers what (EU) 2024/886 now requires: minimum per-transaction and per-day limits, real-time customer control with API-based integrated mobile banking, and additional configurable rules by account, segment, or risk profile.

Already deployed across Romanian and European banks, standalone or integrated natively with Montran Instant Payments Gateways. Talk to us if you’re sizing the next step.

At the IMF & World Bank Group Spring Meetings 2026 in Washington, D.C., global financial leaders came together to address the forces reshaping financial stability, growth, and cross-border collaboration.

For Montran, these moments go beyond dialogue—particularly in our engagements with central banks, ministries of finance, and financial market infrastructures. They provide a valuable opportunity to connect directly with clients and partners worldwide, exchange perspectives, and align on the future of banking, payments, and capital markets.

As the global financial ecosystem continues to evolve, the strength of long-term partnerships remains essential. Through ongoing collaboration, we are committed to helping our clients navigate complexity, drive modernization, and build resilient, future-ready infrastructures.

Montran has been selected by the Central Bank of The Bahamas to deliver the country’s first nationwide Fast Payment System—advancing real-time, always-on payments across the economy.

The platform will interoperate with RTGS, ACH, and the Sand Dollar CBDC, creating one of the first unified environments where real-time payments and digital currency operate together.

This marks a significant step toward enhancing financial inclusion, improving operational efficiency, and building a future-ready payments infrastructure for the Bahamas.

Payment infrastructure succeeds when global software meets local delivery.

Montran works with partners in practical ways: local vendors can support turnkey delivery, while large system integrators can coordinate complex multi-vendor programs around the Montran platform. That is how mission-critical payment systems become operating infrastructure for banks, market operators, and national ecosystems, in 90+ countries.
