Our brains don’t habituate to sensory input = we can’t “get used to it” or “tune it out”

One of the loneliest parts of trauma is becoming so good at carrying it that nobody realises you’re carrying anything at all.

You keep showing up. You go to work. You answer messages. You make people laugh. You remember birthdays. You help everyone else. You keep functioning.

People look at you and think, “They’re doing fine.”

They don’t see the hours after you get home. They don’t see how exhausted you are from acting okay. They don’t see how much energy it takes just to appear normal.

The tragedy is that the better you become at surviving, the less likely anyone is to ask if you’re okay.

Your competence becomes the evidence people use to convince themselves you don’t need help.

You become the reliable one. The capable one. The strong one.

Meanwhile, you’re quietly wondering what would happen if you stopped holding everything together.

Sometimes people don’t ignore your pain because they don’t care.

They ignore it because you’ve become so skilled at hiding it that they mistake survival for wellness.

Healing often begins the moment you stop measuring your worth by how much you can carry without anyone noticing.

You were never supposed to survive life by making your suffering invisible.

There’s a difference between “I’m struggling” and “I’m the problem.”

And if you live with PTSD or CPTSD, that line can get really blurry.

You feel like you’re too much.
Too sensitive.
Too needy.
Too difficult.
Too damaged.

You have a hard day and wonder why you can't handle things better.

You need reassurance and feel guilty for it.

You react to something and spend the rest of the day wondering what’s wrong with you.

You struggle with something that other people seem to handle easily and start believing you’re failing.

That’s shame. It takes something you're struggling with and turns it into a judgment about who you are.

Your trauma may have left you with things you're still working through.
But struggling doesn't mean you're broken, unworthy, or whatever else shame tries to convince you that you are.

So if you've been hard on yourself lately, here's your reminder:

You don't have to be perfect to be worthy.
You don't have to have everything figured out.
And you don't have to believe every awful thing your mind says about you.

You’re allowed to be a person who is still healing without treating yourself like a problem that needs to be fixed.
