When a fire occurs aboard a sealed spacecraft, extinguishing the flames is only the first problem. Acid gases and smoke particulates linger in the closed environment, corroding metal, etching glass, and putting crew health at risk.

NASA's Glenn Research Center is seeking innovative surface cleanup technologies that can perform in the unique constraints of space.

Requirements include:
— Compact and lightweight
— Low-power (under 50W)
— Non-flammable and ISS-safe
— Approximately 18-month shelf life
— Minimal moisture release

Technologies of interest include specialized wipes, plasma cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, protective coatings, and microbubble solutions.

For many remote tea and coffee producers, drying still depends on wood chips and biomass: and that's become a Scope 1 emissions challenge that can't be ignored.

yet2 is working with a global tea and coffee processor looking for low- and zero-CO2e alternatives to biomass and wood-fired systems used in drying, withering, oxidation, and coffee extraction.

What the solution needs to do:
— Heat ambient air to 120°C
— Run continuously, 24/7
— Be deployable and maintainable in remote locations
— Operate within a 2MW grid cap
— Match the economics of wood/biomass at ~$30/tonne

Encapsulating non-polar, solvent-like liquids is one of the harder problems in colloidal science. Conventional oil-based microcapsules leak under real-world conditions or rely on chemistries that contribute to microplastic load.

A yet2 client is seeking novel delivery, stabilization, and encapsulation technologies for complex non-polar functional liquids. The goal: protect the active, handle it cleanly, and trigger release on demand, with materials that are not classified as microplastic.

Areas of interest:

Emulsion and dispersion stabilization for non-polar actives
Bio-based, hybrid, or naturally derived encapsulation matrices with tuneable permeability and degradation
Trigger-based release: humidity, light, enzymatic, mechanical, or time-dependent
Spray-drying, electro-spraying, and supercritical CO2 processing routes
Alternative low-energy inputs including electromagnetic, acoustic, and microwave-assisted methods

Cross-industry solutions from food, home care, personal care, fragrance, agriculture, pharma, textiles, and advanced coatings are all in scope. Early-stage and low-TRL work from academic groups and startups is welcome.
