Surely it can’t be just my feed is showing multiple workshops, downloads, trainings, promising to help you, a creative freelancer, get more clients.

And don’t get me wrong, of course we want more clients.
And those trainings might absolutely help you get more clients.

But correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t more clients also more work? Like if we got twice as many clients at the same prices we charged all year, then that’s also going to be twice as much work.

And couldn’t we, before we go and get all those clients using the things those other workshops and trainings teach, change the prices we charge so we can make twice as much money without having to work twice as hard?

Ideally, yeah. So let’s fix the pricing first, shall we?

Pretty sure the Jaz who quit her 9-5 to pursue freelancing would freak the f*ck out…

I remember standing outside the studio I left back when I took the freelancing leap thinking “holy sh*t, how am I going to make this work? Have I just made the biggest mistake ever?”

lol nope. Not at all Baby Jaz

Cos not only have you done the BEST thing for your creative brain and future business, but you’ve also stepped on the pathway to something pretty cool.

Because I had to build my own freelancing business where
- my yearly salary is now a few months of freelancing
- my weekly routine is filled with enough clients and creative to challenge me but not burn me out
- my day often starts at 10am, working often in trackies and my commute most days is the stairs up to my home studio

I had to work out how to make it work for me, so I could then help you achieve it too (assuming that YOU are a creative freelancer or service provider like me), especially if you’re wanting to stay solo, sane and sleeping at night.

You only need to be a few steps in front to help someone along the path. So if you’re going my way, here’s my hand. Lemme help you out.

I’ve got two rare spots opening up in late September/Early October for a creative freelancer who’s building the six figure business they dreamt of when they left their 9-5. Comment COACH, let’s chat.

I don’t want more clients, I want more money 💸💸💸

It feels like every other post on this app is telling you that you need more clients, but lemme ask you 2 questions:

1. Do you want more clients, or do you want more money?

2. If you actually landed twice as many clients right now, do you even have the capacity to take them on?

So before we do all the workshops that show you how to get more clients or get fully booked out… let’s make it so that when they do, they’re paying more than who’s saying yes right now.

Let’s make sure that if you did end up with more clients, that you also become Cashed Up instead of burnt out in the process.

Cos when you say it like that, it’s obvious, right?

Of course we don’t wanna make millions but sacrifice our mental state.

But in the same breath, we gotta check alllll the metrics.

And yeah, in some situations, charging more makes sense, and to a degree makes the effort and energy worth the output. But there’s a balance, a nuance, a mix of hard rules and negotiables around what’s worth it.

For the capacity you have coming up.
For the energy you have to give or allocate.
For the price tag you’re brave enough to charge.

Get the balance right, it feels like winning.

But you gotta know that that combo is for you, each time, and it can’t come from a business that you hate running.

Go build a business (and income) you enjoy.
I’m in your corner.

I’ve had some moments in life I’ve felt pretty unstoppable, but I don’t think it’s because I was trying to BE unstoppable.

It was because I was making what I wanted inevitable

The moment I hit a million as a freelancer in 2022, or hitting my second million last year…

The moment when a freelancer I’ve coached texts me they FINALLY hit six figures like they’ve been dreaming…

The moment when a creative excitedly tells me “I charged more because of you and they didn’t even flinch” after I showed them how…

These all happened because I kept going. I knew that I wanted to not only show that as a freelancer I could make millions, but also prove it’s possible for other creatives too.

As Pricing Queen, I’ve helped hundreds of creatives make thousands of dollars more from their creativity, build up their cash confidence and run profitable businesses.

And when they do that, they’re unstoppable too

Hopefully see you onstage at unstoppablewomen.au or at the very least, sit next to you come September (week before my birthday too!) Christine Corcoran

“What I wish I knew as an ambitious creative trying to run a business”

This one was very fun to write. I remember that budding creative I was way back, almost a decade ago, when I leapt to freelance full time.

I wore the blazer and white shirt. Said the things corporates did. Dragged the employee handbook into freelancing thinking that was the right thing to do.

It wasn’t. It sucked. And truth be told, it only got better once I ditched the handbook and started acting like the ambitious creative I am today.

These days I do most business in trackies and cross legged (adhd things). I run both businesses authentic to the way I think, act and feel. Some days I follow the dopamine, other days I follow the dollars. That’s just how it works for me and it’s working out pretty well…

Thanks Inside Small Business and Tim Ladhams for having me in this issue of ISB, and The Publicity Princess Meet The Press - Kate Engler for always championing me

Better late than never, right?

Shoutout to Proudly Autistic CEO | DM’s not managed here for the reminder. Classic neurodiverse s**t show over here.

I’ve always been open about my ADHD brain, showing that just because your brain is built different doesn’t mean disaster. Chaos, yeah, but creativity is born in the eye of chaos.

But weirdly enough, this whole showing the ugly underbelly felt really vulnerable.

Like haven’t I just gotten over it yet? They’re just symptoms, I used to be able to ace this? What happened?

But I think it’s more important to show that the superpowers balance with the sucky bits. That success, in my case financial success, can coexist with things not being perfect.

Happy belated Neurodiversity Week I guess?

Selfish of me to get sick when I was rostered on really…

And do you think I spent that day resting?!
ABSOLUTELY NOT

I spiraled over what I needed to do to make it up to my boss next time. I freaked out that this meant I was likely going to be fired even though I had been a great worker. I spent so long worrying and probably making myself sicker.

This cannot be just me, meet me in the comments, let’s deep this
