Question of the week: How does your maintenance team protect the weekly maintenance schedule when breakdowns hit?

A) A dedicated crew handles reactive work
B) Every crew holds back reserved hours

Both approaches hold up, and the better fit depends on your site. A dedicated reactive crew keeps planned work moving and builds strong emergency-response skills, but it requires enough people to split the workforce. Reserved hours spread the buffer across everyone, which helps smaller crews stay flexible without gutting the schedule. Crew size, breakdown predictability, and PM program maturity all shape the call.

A or B? Let us know your crew size and why that approach works for your maintenance schedule.

If your root cause analysis keeps landing on the same failed bearing, the problem statement might be where the trouble starts. Charles Kettering, who led research at General Motors for decades, said it best: “A problem well stated is a problem half solved.”

On the plant floor, “pump failed again” gives a team very little to work with. A clear statement of what failed, when it failed, under what load or operating conditions, and how often it’s happened gives your reliability engineers something they can test, measure and fix for good.

So here’s our question for maintenance and reliability teams this week: what’s the one detail you wish every work order captured before an RCA begins?

AI is only as smart as the data you feed it. And that’s where things get interesting…

Day 1 at the MAINSTREAM UK Summit 2026 in Birmingham, and AI keeps coming up in the technical sessions. It can identify patterns, analyze equipment data, and support predictive maintenance. Still, incomplete inspection records, disconnected condition-monitoring data, and inconsistent asset histories make it hard for even the most sophisticated AI to deliver meaningful results.

Here’s how we help:
✅ Bring your data together: consolidate inspection results, vibration analysis and other condition-monitoring information into one platform
✅ Get a clearer picture of asset health: trend equipment condition over time and prioritize maintenance before problems become costly failures
✅ Turn findings into action: connect condition-monitoring insights with maintenance workflows and integrate with your existing CMMS/ERP systems
✅ Build a stronger foundation for AI: make better use of the asset information and historical data you already collect

Can you trust the data behind your next prediction? If you’re visiting the MAINSTREAM UK Summit, see us at booth , and let’s talk maintenance, reliability, and what your data could be telling you.

How do you get the most out of AI at your plant? It was one of the biggest questions at MainTrain 2026 in Montreal, in the sessions and at our booth. Our recap covers the top maintenance and reliability challenges, from paper data and spare parts to getting employees on board with Asset Performance Management.

Asset inspection and basic care play a bigger role in plant safety than most people think. Equipment overdue for a maintenance check puts production at risk, along with the safety of whoever works near it.

Routine inspections give operators and technicians a structured way to flag safety concerns as part of the job, without making it a separate task that competes for time. Over time, this builds a plant culture where checking on equipment condition is simply part of how the shift runs, rather than something that only happens after an incident prompts a review.

Should inspection findings count toward your safety metrics, or stay a maintenance number?

Disconnected plant maintenance data rarely looks like a problem until a failure forces you to piece it together afterward. Inspection routes, work orders, and condition readings each capture something useful, but when they live in separate systems, patterns slip past your team.

Bringing that information into one view gives reliability engineers and plant managers the context to act earlier. Which gap slows your team down the most: inspection data, work orders, or condition monitoring? Tell us in the comments.

What’s stopping plants from getting more out of AI in predictive maintenance? Our SMRP 2026 recap shares what reliability teams told us in Raleigh. The short answer is the data behind it. Plants are collecting more data than ever, and finding what matters for each role is getting harder.

Live from Day 1 of 2026 PEMAC Asset Management Association of Canada at the Marriott Terminal Aéroport de Montréal, Québec! Here are some photos of Ilyass and John at Booth #310.

The booth next to us is empty, so there’s plenty of room to come say hello and chat about what’s happening with your plant’s maintenance program. If you’re here too, come stop by our booth to talk reliability strategy. We’d love to meet you.
