Hear from Simi, our organizational talent, about her last 14 years at b13:
It all started when Benni and David said "we need someone like you at b13." That kind of appreciation, as part of the whole package, just feels good—and it's what makes working at b13 so special.
My responsibilities have changed many times over 14 years, and no two working days have ever been the same. That's both motivation and challenge in one, and I love it. When you work with friends, it often doesn't feel like work at all—and we never run short on fun.

Congrats Simi, thanks for organizing all our team trips and bringing the good vibes!

What's still with you two weeks after an event? We're less interested in what lands in the room than what's still there when the room is long gone!

Two weeks ago we were in Atlanta for Boye & Co's Digital Experience Leaders meetup—about 20 people in one packed conference room, no stage, no pitches, just a long afternoon of CMS people talking honestly.

What's still with us two weeks later:

One question kept resurfacing all afternoon, regardless of who was speaking—not "what can this system do?" but "who is going to maintain it in three years?"

A few things from the room that made it sharper:

→ AI-built MVPs reach roughly 80% and then stall. Scalability, security, maintainability—exactly the parts enterprise can't compromise on.

→ Organizations that replaced junior editors with AI a year ago are quietly rehiring senior editors at 2–3× the cost. Brand voice and domain expertise turn out not to be commodities.

→ The FAIR Package Manager Project—Linux Foundation–backed, originally built to decentralize WordPress.org—is platform-agnostic by design. At CloudFest 2026 the team prepared its first non-WordPress integration: TYPO3. That isn't a random pick.

The thread underneath all of it: when you pick a CMS, you also pick its governance. Magento and Drupal/ Acquia have shown what happens when an ecosystem ends up captured by a single vendor. The TYPO3 Association as non-profit owner, transparent core team, public roadmap—unremarkable on a feature comparison sheet, but the answer to the one question a CIO with a five-year horizon actually needs answered.

On 19 May 2026, the first-ever TYPO3 Summit North America took place at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. One day, one room, a tightly curated lineup.

For an open source project that has quietly powered enterprise digital infrastructure in Europe for two decades, this was a statement. ✨ Not “we’re launching in the U.S.”—TYPO3 has been around there for years—but “we’re getting serious about a market where awareness is the bottleneck, not technology.”

"No stage, no audience—just vendors, agencies, and open-source folks sitting close enough to interrupt each other." — David Steeb, CEO at b13 GmbH

A Sneak Peek of David's Recap:
"Last week I joined Boye & Co's Digital Experience Leaders meetup in Atlanta—part of the same Boye CMS Experts series that runs the CMS Kickoff in Florida I wrote about earlier this year. The afternoon was hosted by Matthew McQueeny (Boye & Co) and Matthew Garrepy (CMS Critic). About twenty people, one packed conference room at Industrious in Ponce City Market, a TV at one end, and a lot of discussion in between..."

What stuck with him was how consistently one question kept resurfacing across the afternoon, regardless of who was speaking: not "what can this system do?", but "who is going to maintain it in three years?"

Being clear and real from the start builds that kind of trust our clients appreciate. We have fun and enjoy the process!

We don’t fake kindness, but genuinely seek to find a level where we can work together as partners, seeing potential and investing in to their future.

We dig deeper to get the utmost best out of our clients but also have the courage say no from the get-go if we don’t align.

Whether at work or in general life, what role does authenticity take for you? Let us know in the comments!

13 years at b13. In Gorges' own words, "the past years have been fulfilling, challenging, and simply beautiful. I wouldn't miss any of it."

Or in the original German: „Die letzten Jahre kann ich nur sagen dass diese sehr erfüllend, herausfordernd aber einfach auch sehr schön waren. Möchte daran nichts missen.“

Ask Daniel, (who we all call Gorges, due to his surname,) what he loves about working here and you'll hear: a team that spends real time together. A boss who's also a good friend. The room to grow, learn, try new things and make mistakes along the way. He lives out b13's commitment to finding the right solution for clients, not the most profitable one.

And b13 has appreciated Gorges greatly.
Over the years he was always the one quietly watering the plants and cleaning the coffee machine before anyone noticed. He showed up with coffee he roasted himself and beer he brewed with hops from his own garden.

Here's to 13 years of Gorges' "I can do that"-mentality! May there be many more!

Last week Flix represented b13 at the CMS Summit 2026 and we are so grateful for the amount of great feedback on his talk! To quote Antonia Fedder:

Florian Keitgen's talk was the one that almost got me. "Leadership needs more emotional intelligence." Yes, a hundred times. And underneath that: "Leadership does not remove dysfunction. It reduces its power." That one is going to stay with me for a while.

Glad Flix's talk struck a chord for you!

Thanks yet again to Janus Boye and Boye Company for bringing people together and building bridges!

Spot the monkeys stealing Sattler’s Cap! 🐒🧢

Sattler's Five Rapid Fire Quips on his 14 Years at b13:

1. A go-live BBQ early in the morrow chases away worry and sorrow.
2. I'll handle it—if need be with BBQ tongs in hand.
3. I've already rebuilt things that weren't even broken.
4. You can tell it's a great team when even a go-live gets celebrated.
5. When things heat up, we fire up the grill.

5. Wenn's brennt, wird gegrillt.

Thanks for fourteen great years full of fun and your infectious celebratory spirit! Keep it up Grill Request Handler! 🍔 🔥 🎉

NEW on the blog! UX sprawl rarely happens overnight—it creeps in quietly. A new landing page here, an extra feature there, a quick fix for an urgent request. Before you know it, your digital product feels fragmented and hard to manage.

Our UX-Designer Stefanie Kreuzer and Project Manager Florian Keitgen share how UX expertise and project management work hand in hand to bring structure back and turn scattered ideas into a clear, manageable roadmap.
