Platform One Platform One, a creative graphic design company based in Monmouth, in the heart of the Wye Valley. View our portfolio on our website.

Platform One Creative Agency delivers design and project management for all things print, promotion, online and display-related with skills in-house that most studios buy in. We are a small, family-run partnership, founded in 1969; one of the longest running creative agencies in Wales. But don’t let our age make you think we're old-fashioned. Quite the contrary; our longevity provides our clients

with a wealth of experience and knowledge of the design and print industry that’s hard to beat, and our ideas are consistently fresh and original. Over five decades, we have built a portfolio of clients drawn from diverse sectors - from manufacturing to heritage interpretation - and from sole traders to international companies. We've experienced the privilege of being head-hunted for a major project in Abu Dhabi; been the preferred supplier over many years for the likes of Bass, Nationwide Access, and the Haberdashers' Monmouth Schools; but we are equally comfortable working for small local businesses and start-ups. For example, in the last few months we’ve created a new website for JC Carpets and Beds - a family-run store - and designed the book 'Wild Swimming the River Wye' for the environmental campaigner Angela Jones. Quite simply, we are a safe pair of hands, and we love helping people and meeting a challenge. Oh, and whilst we don’t like to brag, we’re award-winners too. CHURCH STREET SIGNAGE

Not all of our projects have a quick turnaround. Many can take several months from initial commission to installation, particularly those that go out to tender and require consultation with multiple stakeholders at various stages of the process.

However, this may have been one of the longer projects. The artwork was approved and supplied over 18 months ago, but progress was delayed due to various technical issues and works being carried out in the area.

The project was commissioned by MONMOUTH TOWN COUNCIL, and Platform One was successful in winning the tender to create the design and artwork. Once the scaffolding had been removed from the Barton, the posts could be built and installed. Exact measurements were then taken to ensure the sign would fit correctly before manufacturing could begin.

The metalwork then had to be shaped, cut, coloured and assembled before the final installation could take place. The sign itself was fabricated by local company NCS WELDING AND FABRICATIONS, whose craftsmanship helped bring the design to life.

As with many of our projects, this was very much a team effort at PLATFORM ONE. David created the various design concepts, illustrations and visualisations, with all of the artwork being hand-drawn. Once the designs had been approved, Sher translated the illustrations into vector artwork before converting them into CAD drawings for the fabricators.

None of this was a five-minute job.

Much of the work that goes into projects like this happens behind the scenes and is rarely seen by the public, but it is what ensures the finished piece is both beautiful and built to last. Hopefully, the sign will remain in place and be enjoyed for many years to come.

End of an era!

This quote from the obituary says it all...

"Artistically, what he did in the 1990s was extraordinary.

The London scene was dominated by Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and the Young British Artists - brazenly exhibiting sharks in formaldehyde and making art out of unmade beds.

But Hockney - the great innovator - just went back to painting."

The proud Yorkshireman, who also painted iconic pictures of America, was routinely described as Britain's greatest artist.

The Magic Behind the Design

A logo, brochure, or website is just the final piece of the puzzle.
Behind every design is strategy, experience, problem-solving, and a deep understanding of the business it represents.

Good design isn't just about how it looks—it's about how it works.

We're a bit late sharing this one, but it's too good not to post.

Last year, we had the pleasure of creating a new logo and window posters for the rebrand of Beautyology By Renata, a well-established beauty business in Monmouth.

It was great to help bring a fresh new look to the business while maintaining the professional, welcoming feel that Renata's clients know and love.

📍 Rhayader Job Showcase – Part 3

As part of this project, we were tasked with promoting a brand-new visitor route – The Dragon Trail. 🐉

Rhayader already offered several fantastic walking trails, so we developed a cohesive visual identity to bring them all together.

We designed a collection of individual bilingual trail logos, each with its own character while working as part of a unified brand family for the town. Using a blend of hand-drawn and computer-generated illustrations created in-house, we crafted a distinctive visual style that celebrates the unique identity of each route while maintaining a consistent look across the entire trail network.

The result is a recognisable and consistent trail network that helps visitors explore Rhayader.

Meet Bwgy and his Wyrmling friends!

We devised and created these adorable baby dragons who are the stars of the brand-new Dragon Trail, stretching from the wonderful Museum TimeScape in Rhayader to the Elan Valley Visitor Centre.

These are to be installed on the popular 3-mile walking and cycling route along the old railway line.

As you follow the trail, you'll discover 12 activity panels featuring Bwgy and his friends, along with fascinating stories about the people who lived and worked in Rhayader and on the Elan Valley dams during their construction. All Illustrations were created here in-house.

But that's not all...

There are even more Wyrmlings waiting to make an appearance in shop windows around Rhayader. However, those little cuties will have to remain a secret for now until they've had their official unveiling!

Rhayader Job Showcase – Part 1

Over the next few posts, we'll be showcasing the different elements of our recent project in Rhayader.

To begin, we're highlighting the visitor map and information panels that we designed, manufactured, and installed throughout Rhayader and Cwmdauddwr.

These panels provide visitors with useful local information, wayfinding, and points of interest, helping people explore and enjoy everything the area has to offer. They also introduce the newly created Dragon Trail between Rhayader and the Elan Valley Visitor Centre, a fantastic route designed to encourage exploration and adventure.

From initial design concepts through to manufacture and installation, it was a pleasure to deliver a complete signage solution for the community and its visitors.

We can't wait to introduce you to our Wrymlings and share more about the Dragon Trail in the coming posts!

We're delighted to share a recent commission for Monmouthshire County Council.

Having successfully won the tender, we were commissioned to design, produce and install new signage, tree labels, a leaflet and interpretation for Linda Vista Gardens in Abergavenny.

The project features bespoke illustrations and a hand-painted map created by David, helping to bring the history and character of these beautiful gardens to life for visitors.

We're proud to have been involved in enhancing this wonderful public space and sharing the finished project.

From Sketchbook to Street Art...

You know how we at Platform One like to take on a challenge… well here’s one of our latest!

David was commissioned to create three beautiful watercolours recreating Church Street and the shopfront that the current scaffolding is hiding. The installation went up today and it looks fantastic!

If you’re in Monmouth, it’s well worth popping up to Church Street to see it in all its glory.

To say David Evans has been nervous over the past few weeks waiting to see his original watercolours blown up to life-size is a bit of an understatement… but we’re absolutely delighted with how it’s turned out! 😊

With thanks to Ottimo Digital Print and Rushar limited Scaffolding Contractors for doing such a great job with printing and installation.
