As the Principal Designer and Creative Director of JGJ Designs, I’m often called upon to present creative concepts to everyone from individual clients to committees of 10 or more. Being able to communicate clearly, confidently, and effectively is just as important as the design work itself.
That’s why I was excited to participate in a workshop presented by Harold Sealls, a veteran of the media industry and former engineer at WBZ-TV 4 and WGBH. The six-week workshop, held at The Record Co. in Boston, brought together 12 participants seeking to strengthen their public speaking and presentation skills.
We stepped up to the mic, recorded our scripts, and received thoughtful, constructive feedback after each recording. The process allowed us to listen, adjust, and improve—and reminded me that great communication, like great design, is an ongoing practice.
And what a treat to receive a mini tour of The Record Co. from Pablo Velez, a former Zoom actor from the ’90s! It was a wonderful behind-the-scenes experience and an unexpected highlight of the day.
Looking forward to the final two sessions and continuing to sharpen my voice, presentation skills, and confidence as a creative professional.
A big thank-you to The Record Co., instructor Harold Sealls, my fellow participants, and Ed Galan Edward, Creative Aging Manager at the City of Boston's Age Strong Commission, for creating such an engaging and valuable learning experience!
