On this day August 3 1977 Tandy announces one of the first mass-market home computers, the TRS-80, to be sold in its Radio Shack stores. It features 4K of RAM and sells for $399 (or $599 with a monitor and tape recorder for storage). Upgrades will keep various TRS-80 models on the market until 1991.

On 17 August 1982, Royal Philips Electronics manufactured the world's first compact disc at a Philips factory in Langenhagen, just outside of Hanover, Germany.

The invention of the CD brought in a technological revolution in the music industry as CDs marked the beginning of the shift from analog to digital music technology. The CD became a catalyst for further innovation in digital entertainment, helping pave the way for the launch of DVD and subsequent digital media.

Man 1982, and it is almost an extinct technology today. 37 years is a pretty good run in the tech world. Just think there are kids in school that have never seen or used a CD or DVD...😲
