LPNs see how care really works. Where the handoff gets missed. What the chart doesn't say. Where the technology helps and where it gets in the way.

That view is worth something off the floor. Here are six roles that hire LPNs.

Clinical Operations Specialists keep a virtual clinic's workflows running. Care Coordinators at health plans help members get the care they need, often from home. Clinical Applications Specialists help clinicians switch to a new EHR.

Quality Coordinators keep documentation survey-ready. Care Navigators check in with remote monitoring patients. And Clinical Liaisons build referral relationships for hospice and home health agencies.

Requirements vary by employer, so read each posting. Most want an active LPN license and a couple of years of experience.

The newest gig in AI asks for one thing first: a clinical license.

AI labs are hiring professionals to train their models, Bloomberg reports. One posting from Handshake, for physicians, listed up to $200 an hour.

It asked for a medical license and direct patient care experience.

The work is checking the machine.

You write prompts, then review the AI's answers for clinical accuracy and sound medical reasoning. Mercor told Bloomberg its workers average $110 an hour. It also has an open posting for nurse practitioners at $120 to $150 an hour.

Here's the twist. The headline number belongs to lawyers, at up to $400 an hour. But on Handshake, the lawyer posting paid $90 to $110. The physician posting paid about twice that.

And a license that's "previously active" counts. You don't have to be practicing now.

It's contract work, not a career. Projects end. But it shows what AI companies need most: someone who can tell when an answer is clinically wrong. That same judgment is what clinical informatics, quality and clinical product roles hire for.

"Maybe people like me don't really get out."

We hear some version of that every week. It's usually from someone with years of clinical experience who can't see where it fits.

Here's where it fit for four of them:

- A nurse became a remote Account Manager, with a $22k salary increase.
- An occupational therapist became a remote Capital Partnerships Manager, with a $75k salary increase plus equity.
- A physical therapist became a remote Account Executive: done by 4:30, with no weekends.
- A physician assistant became a remote Clinical Reviewer, out of direct patient care.

Different credentials. Different roles. Every one of them started out not knowing which role fit.

"Today was my last day cleaning teeth."

That's how Taylor, a dental hygienist, wrapped up her last day in the chair. Now she's a Talent Specialist on a hybrid schedule.

Her biggest hurdle was a narrow search.

Most of the openings she found were at dental companies. Her key to getting through it? Networking. The offer came through a connection from her temp agency days.

Along the way, she taught herself AI tools so she could talk about operations like someone who already worked there. She treated every rejection as practice. And when the offer came, she negotiated it up.

Now she has unlimited PTO and a 15-minute commute. Great work, Taylor!

No corporate experience? Then you'll probably hear this one: "You don't have experience in this industry. How will you adapt?"

What they're really asking is whether you'll struggle.

Most clinicians answer with passion and a promise to learn fast. That asks them to take your word for it.

The stronger answer is proof. Here's one: "Healthcare has taught me to master complex systems quickly. In my first year as an ICU nurse, I learned 15+ medication protocols and became proficient in our EMR within 3 months."

Build every answer the same way: the challenge, what you did, and the result, with a number.

It's not the person with the most experience who gets the job. It's the person with the best interview. That takes practice before the real thing.

Healthcare consulting is problem-solving for hospitals, health systems and life sciences companies.

And consulting firms hire clinicians for exactly what you know.

Indeed puts the average healthcare consultant's base pay at $112,015. At the top firms, entry-level hires start at about $110,000 base, with up to $135,000 in total cash, according to Management Consulted.

There are three common ways in.

Get hired straight into a healthcare boutique firm. They want people who understand clinical work from the inside.

Move over from clinical operations or quality. If you've fixed a workflow or led a QI project, you've already done consulting work.

Or go independent. Pick a problem you know how to solve, and sell the fix.

Do you need an MBA? It helps at the big strategy firms. At healthcare-specific firms, your clinical expertise counts for more.

Your clinical résumé isn't wrong. It's written for the wrong reader.

Hiring managers outside patient care don't read "charge nurse" or "caseload" as business skills. But that's exactly what they are.

Charge nurse duties are resource allocation, staffing decisions and conflict resolution. A PT's caseload is portfolio management and prioritization. Peer review is performance evaluation, feedback and quality control.

Then write each line the same way: what you did, how you did it, and the result. Put a real number on the result. Estimate if you have to, but never make it up.

You're not starting over. You're translating.

Hospitals need more nurses than ever. They're losing them faster anyway.

NSI Nursing Solutions tracked 527 hospitals in 40 states, covering more than 262,000 RNs. Bedside RN turnover hit 17.6% in 2025, up from 16.4% the year before.

Fifteen years ago, it was about 11%, The Wall Street Journal reports.

It's expensive.

Each bedside RN who leaves costs a hospital $60,090 on average, NSI says. At Emory Healthcare, a researcher put it at about $78,000. And the RN vacancy rate is 8.6%.

Here's the twist: A University of Pennsylvania survey of 4,000 nurses who'd left a job in the past five years found that only 8% now work in other fields. 56% retired. The rest weren't working.

So leaving the bedside rarely turns into a new career.

Not because the roles aren't there. The nurse in the Journal's story moved into remote patient monitoring. Others go into care coordination, clinical education, quality or health-tech customer success.

The hard part is knowing which one fits, and how to get there.

If you've been applying to every non-clinical job you can find, stop for a minute.

The problem isn't how many applications you send. It's how many different kinds of roles they're for. A résumé written for 40 roles fits none of them.

So pick two or three target roles first. Run each one through five questions:
- Does it fit your top priorities?
- Does it use your strengths?
- Does it move you toward your long-term goal?
- Is there a realistic next step from it?
- Does it pass your deal-breakers, like a salary minimum or remote work?

Then aim everything at those roles. Your résumé speaks to what they need. Your LinkedIn draws the right recruiters. And you become known for something specific.

Focusing isn't limiting. It's how the search starts working.

I left family medicine residency midway through year 3.

Then came the hard part. My first business failed. I applied to job after job and heard nothing back. And I tried to figure it all out alone.

What finally worked wasn't more applications. It was three changes:

1. I got clear on which roles actually fit.
2. I framed myself within the role I wanted, not my clinical title.
3. I stopped doing it alone.

My first health-tech role was Director of Community at a startup in Austin. Then clinical operations. Then friends started asking how I did it. That's how MatchDay started.
